
DEFINING YOUR OWN NLQ CHARACTERS
As youprobablynoticed,NLQ charactersareprintedby twopassesof the
printhead.Halfof thecharacteris printedonthefirstpass,andtheremain-
deron the secondpass.Thepaperis rolledup halfa dotheightin between
passesto let the printhead print dots on the secondpass that overlapthe
previousdots,in orderto fill in the spacesandproducedensercharacters.
Additionally,the print head speed is halved, and the dots are printed at
doublethedensityof draftcharacters.For thisreason,IW,Qcharacterscan
containup to 23 dots in thehorizontaldirection.
Fundamentally,theprocessto defineandprintdownloadedNLQcharacter
is the sameas for draftcharacters,exceptthatyoumustassignthe charac-
ter data accordingto the emulationmode,you are using.
Assigningthe characterdata withtheStandard
mode
Thereare differencesin thewaythe attributeinformationis processed.
In the draftqualitymodethe attributebytecarriesthedescenderdata,and
specifiesthe left spaceandthe characterwidth.In theNLQmode,therare
